A designer who ships, or an engineer with taste. Both work.

I'm Hubert Formin — legally Formin Hubert Akawung — a lead frontend engineer and product designer based in Yaoundé, Cameroon, with a Master's in Computer Engineering.

Most of my work has been in money: crypto investment at Ejara, payments at Kwik Nkap, DeFi protocols at NeoWorlder. Interfaces where an ambiguous button or a mistimed loading state costs someone real money get built differently, and that has shaped how I work more than any framework has.

The split between design and engineering never made sense to me. Handing a Figma file across a wall loses something every time. I'd rather hold both, decide in the browser, and ship the thing I drew — which is also why I use AI sub-agents heavily: they let one person keep the quality bar of a team.

Now I'm putting the same standard into products of my own, under the name Hformin.

Architecting responsive interfaces for complex blockchain applications in React, Next.js and TypeScript.
Building DeFi protocol experiences with MetaMask and WalletConnect integration.
Built a design system that keeps prototypes and production code in sync, cutting production time by 40%.

CTO & Lead Frontend Engineer

Feb 2024 — Present /Hybrid

KwikNkap Technologies

Bootstrapped and architected the entire frontend and backend infrastructure for the fintech platform.
Now serving 100+ live merchants with over $10M in processed payment volume.
Lead the design and build of high-performance payment dashboards using Zustand and Tailwind.
Own the platform experience end to end, from Figma through to production code.

Product Designer, Fintech & Crypto

Oct 2020 — Jun 2021 /Remote

Ejara

Refined the interaction model for Francophone Africa's leading investment platform, covering crypto and fractional shares.
Ran usability testing on mobile to sharpen UI assets, brand style guides and user journeys.

Co-Founder & CTO

Jul 2018 — Oct 2020 /Yaoundé

Enchird Technologies

Led design and delivery of a mobile platform for the British High Commission of Ghana, built to help get children off the streets.
Managed the full lifecycle for client work, delivering inventory systems that cut operating costs by 20%.
Supervised and mentored a team of four engineers and six interns.
